What is Bilingual Education?
TTO means Bilingual Education, in Dutch “TweeTalig Onderwijs”. This means that English is spoken during many lessons. The books, conversations, explanations and tests are in English.
Another term used for TTO is Clil, which is short for Content and Language Integrated Learning. It means that, taking History for an example, you learn the contents of the subject and also increase your vocabulary of English especially with words that are frequently used when discussing that subject.
TTO in Holland
In 1992 Het Stedelijk Lyceum Zuid was the first regular school in Holland that started Bilingual Education together with four international schools. Since that time the number of schools offering TTO has grown fast to more than 100 in 2008.
