Bilingual education (TT0)

What is Bilingual Education?
TTO means Bilingual Education, in Dutch “TweeTalig Onderwijs”. This means that English is the language of instruction in many subjects. Books, conversation, explanation and tests are all in English.

Another term used for TTO is CLIL, short for Content and Language Integrated Learning. It means that, in History for example, you learn the contents of the subject and also increase your vocabulary of English, especially with words frequently used in discussing the subject.

TTO in Holland

In 1992, together with four international schools, Het Stedelijk Lyceum Zuid was the first public school in Holland to introduce Bilingual Education. Since then, the number of schools offering TTO has grown to more than 150 in 2012.
