A world to be proud of
Why?
Twente has become a more and more international region. The regional plan for an international impulse and growth is described perfectly by the slogan ‘2020 Twente’. The region wants to put itself on the map as a welcoming place for investors and educators. Twente already houses many international companies and has an excelling university and colleges for higher education. In order to make sure that excellent foreign employees and scientists are tempted to come and work here, we need to provide more than a job. It has become obvious over the past years that expats want to bring their families and therefore we need to provide education for their children. When the Dutch Ministry of Education granted Prinseschool the license to open an International Primary School it did so providing there would be a follow up for the pupils in secondary international education. This license was granted to Het Stedelijk Lyceum.
The Zuid campus of Het Stedelijk Lyceum will house the International Secondary School Twente (ISST). This campus has a lot of experience providing bilingual education in the first three years of the pre-college and pre-university levels. About half of the subjects are taught in English, the other half in Dutch. The department has taken care of quite a few expat children and although a number of high quality projects based on the IB philosophy took place, it was never the ideal situation for this category of pupil. However, over the years, management and teachers have gained a lot of experience and that made the choice for this campus a natural one. The International Secondary School Twente (ISST) will be a separate department but where there are similarities with the bilingual department there will be close collaboration.
